Start out small. I now use LED lights in my kitchen recessed cans and all the porch lights that are on all night. It saves 80% of energy and not as hazardous and toxic as CFL to our environment. It is a little expensive but I can recoup my investment in a little over a year on the lights that are on for 8+ hours a day.

This is the best book you can get on the subject. Language children can relate to without talking down to them. Today's youth know more about the damage we're doing to the planet than most adults do. They have bigger hearts for the millions of species that we share this planet with.
